A 1998 letter from Liz Hunt to Algonquin College, lists William as having a birthdate of 8 Oct. 1821, Tyrone, N Ireland.

On 1 June 1850, William married a Mary Halpenny (born Nov. 1829). Together they had 3 boys and 6 girls:

Andrew Lewis. (1851); Catherine (1853); Mary Louisa (1855); William Ously (1857); Margaret Ellen (1860); Sarah Ann (1862); Albert I. W. [ Albert John Wesley] (1865); Eliza J. B. [Jane Blithe] (1867); Esther I. M. [Isabella Maria] (1869).

They subscribed to the Congregational Church.

William died on May 10, 1899 in his 78th year. “Come to the better Land” is the inscription written on his Rosetta gravestone.
